Nickel Plating Services

Explore FLYcncpart's nickel plating services! Nickel plating is a reliable electroplating process that provides excellent corrosion resistance and aesthetic enhancements to your parts, making it particularly suitable for applications requiring high durability and conductivity. Our Shenzhen team has extensive experience ensuring each product meets precision standards, helping you achieve efficient production and high-quality output.
Processing Overview
Description: Nickel plating is an electroplating process that deposits a uniform, bright, protective layer of nickel onto a metal substrate through electrolytic deposition. Nickel plating can be categorized as bright nickel plating, matte nickel plating, and multi-layer nickel plating (such as nickel-chromium composite plating). Thicknesses typically range from 5 to 50 μm, depending on the application. The nickel plating process includes pretreatment (cleaning and activation), electroplating, and post-treatment (passivation or sealing) to ensure strong interlayer adhesion.

Applicable Materials: Steel, copper, zinc alloys, aluminum and their alloys, and some plastic substrates (pre-plating with a primer is required).

Visual Appearance: A glossy silvery-white or matte gray surface with a mirror-like sheen or a soft texture enhances the overall aesthetics of the part.
Advantage
  • Excellent corrosion resistance: The nickel layer forms a dense barrier that resists acids, alkalis, and moisture, extending component life. This is particularly effective in marine and chemical industries.
  • High hardness and wear resistance: Surface hardness can reach HV 300-600, reducing friction and wear, making it suitable for sliding components such as gears and bearings. Good Conductivity and Solderability: Maintains the substrate's conductive properties, facilitating electronic component assembly and soldering.
  • Aesthetic Enhancement: Provides a glossy or matte finish and can be used as a base layer in combination with other coatings (such as chrome) to enhance product quality.
  • Cost-Effective: More economical than gold or silver plating, suitable for mass production. Environmentally friendly, cyanide-free nickel plating reduces hazardous waste.
  • Versatile Applications: Can be used for decoration, functional protection, or as a diffusion barrier, and is compatible with a wide range of substrates.

Precautions
  • Substrate Preparation: Ensure the surface is clean and free of oil and dirt. Improper pretreatment may cause blistering or flaking. Test substrate compatibility to avoid hydrogen embrittlement.
  • Thickness Control: Select thickness based on the application. Excessive thickness may increase stress and cause cracking, while excessive thinness may result in insufficient corrosion resistance. Testing for uniformity is recommended.
  • Environmental Considerations: In humid or corrosive environments, a sealant is recommended. Avoid high temperatures (>300°C) to prevent coating degradation.
  • Design Considerations: Part geometry should avoid sharp corners or deep holes to ensure uniform plating. Plan shielded areas to prevent unnecessary plating. Safety and Environmental Protection: Use a cyanide-free process to reduce toxicity and comply with local environmental regulations; test for allergy risks (e.g., parts that come into contact with skin).
  • Quality Testing: Adhesion, thickness, and salt spray tests are performed to ensure compliance with ISO 1456 or ASTM B689 standards.
