Processing Overview
Description: Annealing is performed by heating the metal to 600-900°C (depending on the material), holding for 1-4 hours, and then slowly cooling. This reduces internal stresses and hardness, without significantly changing the roughness. The process involves preheating, holding the temperature, and furnace cooling, optimizing the crystal structure.

Applicable Materials: Steel, copper alloys, and aluminum alloys.

Visual Appearance: The surface retains its original condition, with a slight luster or oxidized tint (depending on the protective atmosphere).

  • Stress Relief: Eliminates residual stress caused by machining or cold working, preventing cracking.
  • Improves Machinability: Softens the material, facilitating subsequent cutting or forming.

Precautions

  • Protective Atmosphere: Nitrogen or vacuum should be used to prevent oxidation. Surface inspection should be performed.
  • Design Considerations: Ensure uniform wall thickness and avoid heat-sensitive areas.
  • Quality Standards: Comply with ASTM E384, inspecting hardness and microstructure.
