Ultem 1000 is an unfilled, general-purpose grade of polyetherimide (PEI), offering outstanding strength, rigidity, and high-temperature resistance. It combines excellent dimensional stability with inherent flame resistance, making it a preferred choice for demanding industrial and electrical applications.
Introduction to Ultem 1000
What
Ultem 1000 is an amorphous thermoplastic polyetherimide resin containing no fillers or reinforcements. It provides a unique balance of mechanical toughness, dielectric strength, and resistance to heat and chemicals. With a continuous use temperature of around 170–180°C, it outperforms many engineering plastics in thermal and mechanical stability.
Advantages
High strength and rigidity even at elevated temperatures Excellent electrical insulation properties Naturally flame retardant and low smoke generation Good resistance to chemicals and hydrolysis Stable mechanical performance and minimal creep
Applications
Electrical connectors and insulating components Medical instruments requiring sterilization Aerospace interior components and brackets Industrial manifolds and high-temperature structural parts
Because it offers a unique combination of mechanical strength, high thermal resistance, and electrical insulation, outperforming plastics like PC or Nylon in high-demand environments.
