Nitronic 60 is an austenitic stainless steel known for its outstanding resistance to wear, galling, and fretting. While its general corrosion resistance is similar to 304 or 316, it far exceeds them in resisting surface damage under sliding or metal-to-metal contact conditions. This makes it especially useful in valves, bearings, fasteners, and wear-resistant components.

What
Stainless Steel Nitronic 60 (UNS S21800) is an austenitic alloy engineered to combat galling and wear. The alloying additions of silicon and manganese significantly improve resistance to surface damage, even without lubrication. Unlike traditional stainless steels, Nitronic 60 is chosen not for maximum corrosion resistance, but for its unique ability to withstand wear in contact applications, while still offering good corrosion resistance.
