Stainless Steel 2205 Duplex

Material Type:Metal
Material Name:Stainless Steel 2205 Duplex

Alternative Names:UNS S32205 | EN 1.4462 | ASTM A240
Process Compatibility:CNC Milling, CNC Turning, Welding, Heat Treatment
Description
S2205 Duplex Stainless Steel is a dual-phase alloy composed of approximately equal parts austenite and ferrite. It combines the excellent corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steels with the high strength of ferritic grades. It provides superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking and pitting, making it ideal for harsh environments such as marine, oil & gas, and chemical processing.

Introduction to Stainless Steel 2205 Duplex

What
Stainless Steel 2205 Duplex (UNS S32205 / EN 1.4462) is a dual-phase stainless steel with a microstructure of roughly 50% austenite and 50% ferrite. This balance gives it twice the yield strength of standard austenitic stainless steels like 304 or 316, while still providing good toughness and ductility. It is particularly valued for its resistance to stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich environments such as seawater and chemical plants.
Advantages
High strength (about 2x 304/316)
Superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion
Excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking
Good weldability
